World War II traces

History doesn't need to be boring, nor to make us feel sad but there are history lessons that we shouldn't forget. Getting to know the past in an interactive way by visiting museums, galleries, specific events can connect us with different people and we can even understand better the present events/ conflicts.

I have to admit that during school, when I was a kid, I couldn't really understand why we have to learn about the past since it's gone, but travelling opened my mind in understanding culture boundaries, specific attitudes towards current events and nations.

When I started travelling, I felt ashamed that I didn't even know well the history of my own country so I started looking into it.

Nowadays, I could explain to other nationalities where stereotypes come from. I'm able to have deeper and more meaningful conversations.

This story is not meant to be a sad one but one to learn from, specially nowadays when we're living with conflicts around us and what not to forget.

After reading a few books related to the World War II ("The Dressmakers of Auschwitz" by Lucy Adlington) I started investigating why it started and what was the purpose of the war and this journey made me watch videos, visit places and read more books.

Sightseeing started in the UK with a few museums like the Imperial War Museum in London, Duxford Museum near Cambridge, Churchill War Rooms in London and it kept going into different destinations (Lascarsis Rooms in Malta, labour camps in Poland, and a few other more).

I have to admit that my trips are not only about museum visiting but also about having fun, enjoying food, coffee, ice cream accompanied by dear people or just by myself.

I also have to admit that not all places are easy to visit considering the information, location or even the bad energy the place gives but it's where the lessons lay that's my last visit to Poland including Krakow (and Auschwitz) and Gdansk.
